Face Masks...the NEW STYLE! ;)

Feb. 24, 2020
This week we got to video chat with Sis. Hamner.  There have been some new developments* in the mission because of the Corona virus outbreak in Asia.  Not to worry!  These precautions are set up to help prevent any outbreaks in their areas.  Starting this last weekend, the Singapore Mission (along with two other missions in Asia) has had some restrictions put in place to keep our missionaries safe, which we are very grateful for!
*The missionaries are now required to wear a mask whenever they go out of their apartment, they are asked to stay inside their apartment, except to go to the grocery store, church...Sacrament only in Malaysia...no church in Singapore, or to exercise outside near their apartment.  They must not talk to people and must stay 6 ft away from anyone when outside of their apartment, they cannot go into any members or investigators homes, and they are not to meet together as a District (they will do this via social media or other such apps).  In order to proselyte, they will have to make phone calls or use social media (Facebook, etc).
Sis. Hamner and Sis. Nelson have temporarily moved in with the Subang sister missionaries where there is better/closer access to a grocery store, an ATM, and other such necessities.  Plus, it gives them 2 other sisters to be "stuck with" in their apartment. LOL!  Sis. Hamner was in good spirits when we spoke to her yesterday.  This all came as a surprise to them when they got the news Friday evening and were told to be in Subang Jaya (about 30 min south of PJ) by Saturday morning.  The hardest thing for them will be not making face-to-face contact with other people or not being in members and investigators homes, but they are very grateful for the blessing of social media to keep in contact with their friends in their branch.
Please keep all of the missionaries that are serving in Asian countries in your prayers!  We are grateful for President and Sister Woo for taking such great care of our missionaries in the Singapore Mission!

Smoothies, Bowling, and Elbow Bumps

Feb. 17, 2020
At the beginning of the week, Sis. Hamner and Sis. Nelson went bowling with the KL missionaries and then went on splits for the afternoon.  Later in the week, they met with the Galvez family and enjoyed a Filipino meal with them.  "They are a really awesome family!"
If any of you know Sis. Hamner well, you know her love for Smoothie King. SO, you can imagine how sad she was to not have this deliciousness for 18 months, but never fear!  She found a close competitor in PJ called Boost and she's in heaven!
Because of the Coronavirus in Asia, Malaysia and Singapore are being very proactive to keep it from spreading.  One of the ways they have done this is by placing hand sanitizer at all the LRT stations and a lot of other public places.  Also, their mission president, Pres. Woo, is asking all the missionaries to be extra careful by washing their hands more often, being smart about how they interact, and he has asked them to no longer shake hands or hug people...they can now only do
ELBOW BUMPS or place their hand over their hearts (an Eastern Malaysia tradition).
Sis. Hamner sends her love and thanks everyone for their love and support for her.

Friends, Food, and Rainstorms

Feb. 10, 2020

This week's pictures from Sis. Hamner.  She and Sis. Nelson enjoyed celebrating the upcoming birth of one of their branch members. She tried the fruit Durian for the first time and said it was okay...definitely better than she expected. They made it home in a rainstorm just before it turned into a downpour.
Here is a recent post Rachel put out on Facebook a few days ago.  I thought I'd include it in today's post:

"If there is one thing I have become absolutely sure about so far on my mission, it is the power of a simple, heartfelt prayer. Joseph Smith uttered a simple prayer, and God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Him. They answered Him, calling Him by name, and they answered with love. That is a testament to me of the reality of a Father in Heaven who loves and wants to answer His children. In experiencing different circumstances throughout my life - confusion, disappointment, doubt, disheartenment - I've prayed to my Father in Heaven, pleading for His guidance and love, and I have, without a doubt, received it. So, my dear friends and family, whatever may be weighing on your mind and in your heart, questions or thoughts, troubles or fears, I promise that you can receive help with prayer, and feel joy! Heavenly Father is there, and He answers each and every child's prayer. Seek Him on your knees, and He will not leave you alone."
